Are your blinds too long? Learn how to shorten mini blinds in just a few easy steps.
How to shorten Levolor trim and go corded wood and faux wood blinds. You'll need scissors a flat screwdriver, tweezers, or needle nose pliers for this job.
Step 1: Install the blind following the instructions packed with it, lower the blind fully
Step 2: Select the slat that is even with the windowsill or slightly below it. This will be the new bottom slat.
Step 3: There are four chords: the smooth lift cords, the loop chords, the braided ladder cords, and the connector cords
Step 4: Count two slats below your new bottom slat. Find a lift cord and pull it out of the way and cut both ladders cords, repeat with the other ladder cords. The excess slats will fall to the bottom, supported for the moment by the left cord.
Step 5: 6 inches below your new bottom slat cut left cord the slats will fall away. Then remove the last two slats the ones below your new bottom slat. Save some unused slats in case some are damaged in the future. Your blinds will look like this
Step 6: Plugs from the underside of the bottom rail
Step 7: Pull the bottom rail free from the excess slats and cords use tweezers or needle nose pliers to fish the knotted ends of the lift cords out at the bottom rail reinsert the rail between the latter chords just below the new bottom slat
Step 8: Pull the lift cords out at the last loops on the ladder chords repeat with all the lift cords
Step 9: Reinsert the lift cords through the holes on the front and back sides at the bottom rail. Pull the lift cords through the bottom hole then tight each pair of lift cords securely together. Here's a tip - add another knot for extra security. Trim the excess cord.
Step 10: Trim excess ladder cord for easy replacement into the hole. Stuff the ends at the ladder chords into each hole. Reinsert the plug into the bottom rail whole securing the ladder cord. Seat the cords in the plug notches.
